OUR HISTORY
The Garth Company was founded in Montreal, Quebec, by George Garth and his son, Charles, in 1828 during the Industrial Revolution. The founders quickly established the strong reputation of their company, and became Canada’s first manufacturer of gas street lighting for towns and cities throughout the province.
Under the leadership of Charles Garth, the company grew immensely, earning a reputation for the soundness of its plumbing, engineering and steam fitting services.
Garth was soon connected to some of the best-known building projects in Canada at the time, including the Parliamentary Buildings in Ottawa; the Chateau Frontenac and Price Brothers Building in Quebec; the T. Eaton Company store in Toronto; and the Bell Telephone Company’s head office, in addition to various gas and water works, distilleries, sugar refineries, and horticultural hot houses and vineries.
Today, nearly 200 years later, our reputation for being a reliable and knowledgeable partner remains the same. The bold spirit of innovation and high-caliber service that defines our past shows us the way forward.
